Say it loud: we are proud to publish this talented and quite discreet DJ/Producer/Label founder who occasionally plays keyboards for the Theo Parrish's Rotating Assembly and is also part of at least two other prestigious Detroit based collectives such as the Three Chairs and the T.O.M. Project, playing alongside musicians like Moodymann, Theo Parrish again, Omar S or Rick Wilhite... Enough name dropping: if you know none of these guyz, just get a super sized hammer, smash your computer with it, buy some decks, some of their records and go back to the D school. Within a few years, you might like to call me or your hammer "Godfather". Anyway, dear Marcellus confessed me he forevermore got hooked when he first saw Monsieur Anthony Shakir unorthodoxically spinning records at a party, back in the days, when he was 18... Since then, of course, Marcellus Pittmann has gone on digging records and made his own way to the inner circle of quality Detroit producers. WJZZ was the name of the jazz station in Detroit were I first heard this tune. I was 12 years old when I heard this and JZZ had this on regular rotation until the last days of that station(1995). I was a WJZZZ follower until I heard my # 1 pick of the litter.

I didn't become a Prince fan until I saw the 1987 NYE video with Mr. Miles Davis playing trumpet with them on this song. I respected Prince's musicianship for this one. Everything he and he's band did (from him and Shelia E switching from drum playing to vocals) was monumental.

This is the first record I ever bought. In 1986 a friend introduced me to Run DMC and my musical taste changed forever (or should I say, began!) I was first inspired by late night Toronto radio and used to stay up and record cassettes of Chris Sheppard and Deadly Headly Jones' show on CFNY. They both played all kinds of music but what caught my ear first was Hip Hop that was full of samples and scratching.

I am still a huge Public Enemy fan. I actually recently met Chuck D in Banff. Crazy eh? Everything about them was perfect. They have been written about in length so I'm sure I don't need to get into it. Bomb Squad production is probably my favorite of all time. This version of "Rebel" I heard on CFNY. That "Funky Drummer" beat! They always used to play rare DMC mixes of my favorite cuts. What an incredible time for music!!

Around the same time there was plenty of British and American Acid House being played in Toronto. This was probably the first house record I bought. My friends were all into New Order, Erasure, Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys or Hip Hop of the time. I had a good friend I used to go record shopping with in Toronto back then at Starsound and Record Peddler. He was buying stuff like this and Black Box or S-Express and the like. I remember especially picking up Fast Eddie "Yo Yo Get Funky", A Guy Called Gerald "Voodoo Ray", Bomb the Bass "Beat Dis", Simon Harris "Bass", Richie Rich "Turn it Up" and Double Dee and Steinski "Lesson 3". Honestly I didn't really think about the genre thing too much back then. Still try not to! This tune by Todd Terry is a good example of a cross-over type of sound between House and Hip Hop without being "Hip House" per se ;)

Never heard anything like this. What an incredible record to define what was to come in the 90s!! From 92-95 I was buying all kinds of music. There was no ignoring the hardcore and breakbeat techno scene coming out of London. The Toronto rave scene was modeled directly after London's and developed in much the same way. At most parties you would hear all kinds of music and I was a fan of it all. Still have about a crate of Ragga Jungle and Hardcore that I will never part with. :)

Listening to this really puts me in a time and place. Richie Hawtin was an enormous inspiration for many people in Southern Ontario. Plastikman was indeed like a cult. The first time I went to Detroit was for a Plastikman show. The parties are very difficult to describe but 'intense' would probably be a good word.

As the 90s came to a close I moved out west and began collecting older music for the first time. At first I was digging for samples and breaks I had heard in early Hip Hop and House. I was very lucky to have Canada's largest used record shop within an hour from my house here in Banff. I actually met DJ Shadow there in '01. He bought at least 3 crates worth of vinyl that day. This mix is perhaps a good example of records I would be looking for.

Around this time I was living in Victoria on Vancouver Island and was playing at a spot where I was focussing on mid-tempo music of all genres and eras. Production-wise I was slowly making a switch from Hip Hop to slower tempo dance music. Mark E's music was definitely a big inspiration.

Best memory behind the decks?

Probably sometime when my friends and I were teenagers. My friend Joe lost both his grandparents and his father around the same time and he inherited his grandparents house and some money with which he built a mobile DJ set up complete with cube van, light show, everything. One year we all drove out to the Destiny 3-day rave somewhere in Ontario and set up our own stage and played all night without getting shut down. Those were fun days... But everyone loves those days don't they?

Best nightclub soundsystems you met?

Oh man, so many odd places... Sound is so subjective... Or is it? A blasting, clipping, broken clock radio on a bus in Port-au-Prince sounds as good to me as Harvey's system at 39 Hotel in Honolulu y'know? Maybe not I guess... Detroit always had crazy systems. Toronto did too come to think of it.

Any radio show/podcast you like to listen to when you have time?

I used to listen to RBMA (Red Bull Music Academy Radio) all the time. I should get back into it. There is some great stuff on there. I listen to Tim Sweeney's show, Beats In Space, whenever I can on WNYU. Also, the owner of Vinyl Records in Vancouver, David Jones, has a great show on African Rhythms Radio.

Where do you buy you records ?

Usually from retired planetarium sound techs, or from someone's great uncle who overdosed on heroin. But I also love or loved these shops:

C'est le premier disque que j'ai acheté. En 1986, un ami m'a fait découvrir Run DMC et mes goûts musicaux ont alors changé pour toujours. Je devrais même plutôt dire que tout a commencé là pour moi. J'ai d'abord été très emballé par des émissions diffusées tard sur des radios de Toronto. Par exemple, je restais éveillé pour pouvoir enregistrer sur cassette les émissions de la radio CFNY : celle de Chris Sheppard et le Deadly Headly Jones show. On y jouait toutes sortes de musiques mais c'était le Hip Hop, farci de samples et de scratchs, qui retenait en priorité mon attention.

Je suis toujours un grand fan des Public Enemy. J'ai d'ailleurs rencontré Chuck D à Banff, récemment. C'est fou, non? Tout ce qu'ils faisaient était parfait. On a déjà beaucoup écrit sur eux donc inutile d’en rajouter. Je dirai simplement que la prod de Bomb Squad est certainement celle que je préfère depuis toujours. Cette version de "Rebel...", je l'ai entendue sur CFNY. Avec cet incroyable beat de "Funky Drummer"! (James Brown) Généralement, dans ces émissions, ils ne jouaient que des mixes rares de mes morceaux préférés. Quelle période incroyable pour la musique!

À peu près à la même époque, à Toronto, on jouait énormément d'Acid House anglaise et américaine. Je crois que c’est le tout premier disque de House que j'ai acheté. Mes amis écoutaient plutôt New Order, Erasure, Depeche Mode, les Pet Shop Boys ou le Hip Hop du moment. Je me souviens qu'avec un de mes bons potes, on avait l'habitude d'aller acheter des disques à Toronto chez Starsound et Record Peddler. Il achetait ce genre de disques, Black Box aussi, S-Express et des trucs dans le même genre. Je me souviens en particulier de certains disques que j'ai achetés à cette époque : Fast Eddie "Yo Yo Get Funky", A Guy Called Gerald "Voodoo Ray", Bomb the Bass "Beat Dis", Simon Harris "Bass", Richie Rich "Turn it Up" and Double Dee and Steinski "Lesson 3". Sincèrement, je ne réfléchissais pas trop au genre de musique que j'achetais en ce temps-là. D'ailleurs j'essaie toujours de ne pas y penser. Ce morceau de Todd Terry est un bon exemple de fusion entre la House et Hip Hop sans être vraiment de la "Hip-House"... ;)

Je n'avais jamais entendu un truc pareil. Quel disque incroyable pour illustrer ce qui allait se passer dans les années 90 ! ***De 92 à 95, je me suis mis à acheter vraiment toutes sortes de musiques. Pas question non plus à l’époque d'ignorer les scènes Hardcore et Breakbeat Techno qui nous arrivaient en direct de Londres. La scène rave de Toronto suivait d’ailleurs le modèle londonien et se développa de la même façon. Dans la plupart des fêtes, tu pouvais entendre toutes sortes de musiques et j'adorais ce côté-là. J'ai d'ailleurs toujours chez moi une caisse de Ragga Jungle et de Hardcore ! Je ne m’en séparerai jamais. :)***

Écouter ce morceau me ramène vraiment en arrière et à un endroit bien précis... Richie Hawtin a été une grande source d'inspiration pour beaucoup de gens du sud de l'Ontario. Plastikman était pour nous une sorte de personnage culte. La première fois que je me suis rendu à Détroit, c'était pour un show de Plastikman. Ces soirées sont très difficiles à décrire. "Intenses", serait l'adjectif le plus juste, je crois.

Vers la fin des années 90, je suis parti vivre dans l'Ouest et pour la première fois, j'ai commencé à collectionner des musiques un peu plus anciennes. Au début, je me suis mis à rechercher des samples et des breaks qui m'avaient plu dans le Hip Hop et la House des débuts. J'avais une grande chance: à moins d'une heure de mon domicile de Banff, se trouvait le plus grand magasin de disques d'occasion de tout le Canada. J'y ai d'ailleurs rencontré DJ Shadow en 2001. Il acheta ce jour-là au moins l'équivalent de trois caisses remplies de disques. Ce mix est peut-être un bon exemple des disques que j'essayais alors de dénicher.

À cette période, je vivais à Victoria sur l'île de Vancouver et je jouais dans un endroit où je me concentrais sur des rythmiques mid-tempo de tous les styles et de toutes les époques. L'expérience de la production aidant, je me suis mis à glisser doucement du Hip Hop vers des tempos plus lents mais toujours dansants. I used to listen to RBMA (Red Bull Music Academy Radio) all the time. I should get back into it. There is some great stuff on there. I listen to Tim Sweeney's show, Beats In Space, whenever I can on WNYU. Also, the owner of Vinyl Records in Vancouver, David Jones, has a great show on African Rhythms Radio.

Este es el primer disco que compré en mi vida. En 1986, un amigo me descubrió Run DMC y mis gustos musicales cambiaron para siempre. Mejor debería decir que todo comenzó en ese momento para mí. Mi primera inspiración fueron los programas nocturnos difundidos por radio Toronto. Solía quedarme hasta tarde para poder grabar en casetes las emisiones de la radio CFNY; por ejemplo los shows de Chris Sheppard y de Deadly Headly Jones. Pinchaban todo tipo de música pero fue el Hip Hop, lleno de samples y escratches, lo que más me llamó la atención sobre todo.

Todavía soy un gran fan de Public Enemy. Además, he conocido recientemente a Chuck D en Banff. Increíble, ¿no? Todo lo que hacen es perfecto. Creo que ya se ha escrito mucho sobre ellos, así que no hace falta que deba añadir nada más. Diría simplemente que la producción de Bomb Squad ha sido desde siempre mi favorita. Esta versión de "Rebel…”, la escuché en CFNY. ¡Con ese extraordinario ritmo de "Funky Drummer"! (James Brown). Durante esas emisiones, pinchaban generalmente mix raros de mis cortes favoritos. ¡Que época más increíble para la música!

Durante esta época en Toronto se pinchaba cantidad de Acid House inglés y americano. Creo que este fue el primer álbum de House que compré. Mis amigos escuchaban todos a New Order, Erasure, Depeche Mode y los Pet Shop Boys o el Hip Hop del momento. Por aquel entonces tenía un colega con el que solía ir a las tiendas de discos de Toronto como Starsound y Record Peddler. El compraba música de este tipo y de Black Box o S-Express y cosas así. Recuerdo especialmente discos que compré en esa época como Fast Eddie "Yo Yo Get Funky", A Guy Called Gerald "Voodoo Ray", Bomb the Bass "Beat Dis", Simon Harris "Bass", Richie Rich "Turn it Up" and Double Dee and Steinski "Lesson 3". Sinceramente, no pensaba mucho sobre el tipo de música que compraba en aquel tiempo. ¡Y todavía procuro no hacerlo! Este tema de Todd Terry es un buen ejemplo de fusión de House y Hip Hop sin ser puramente "Hip House"… ;)

Nunca había escuchado nada como esto. ¡Que disco más increíble para describir lo que estaba ocurriendo en los 90!! *** Del 92-95 estuve comprando todo tipo de música. Por supuesto, sin ignorar las escenas Hardcore y Breakbeat Techno que llegaban de Londres. La escena rave de Toronto seguía el modelo londinense y se desarrollaba de manera parecida. En la mayor parte de las fiestas se escuchaban todo tipo de músicas y yo era un gran fan de todas ellas. ¡Todavía tengo una caja llena de Ragga Jungle y de Hardcore en mi casa de la que nunca me separaré! :) ***

Cuando escucho este tema vuelvo al pasado y a un lugar bien conocido. Richie Hawtin fue una gran inspiración para mucha gente en el sur de Ontario. Plastikman era sin duda objeto de culto para todos nosotros. La primera vez que fui a Detroit fue a un concierto de Plastikman. Aquellas fiestas son muy difíciles de describir, pero “intensas”, sería el adjetivo más apropiado.

Al principio, rebuscaba samples y breaks que había escuchado de los comienzos del Hip Hop y del House. Tenía mucha suerte de que la tienda más grande de discos usados del Canadá se encontrara a una hora de mi casa en Banff. Además allí me encontré con DJ Shadow en el 2001. El compró por lo menos 3 cajas de vinilos aquel día. Este mix es, quizás, un buen ejemplo de los discos con los que gustaría encontrarme.

Uno de los primeros “nuevos discos” que empecé a comprar después de una interrupción de 5/6 años. Durante este periodo estaba viviendo en Victoria en la isla de Vancouver y pinchaba en un sitio donde me concentraba sobre los ritmos mid-tempo de todos los estilos y de todas las épocas. En lo que a producción se refiere, estaba deslizándome lentamente del Hip Hop a tempos más lentos de música de baile. La música de Mark E fue por lo tanto una gran inspiración para mí.

El mejor recuerdo de una sesión?

Probably sometime when my friends and I were teenagers. My friend Joe lost both his grandparents and his father around the same time and he inherited his grandparents house and some money with which he built a mobile DJ set up complete with cube van, light show, everything. One year we all drove out to the Destiny 3-day rave somewhere in Ontario and set up our own stage and played all night without getting shut down. Those were fun days... But everyone loves those days don't they?

Aunque has estado pinchando como DJ, rebuscando y coleccionando álbumes y sampleados desde hace tiempo, parece que todos vosotros aparecisteis de repente en el año 2006 como prometedores productores underground. Ese año, justo después de graduarte con un master en business, rápida y radicalmente cambiaste tu rumbo, decidiendo que tu vida no era para lo que te habías preparado. En el transcurso de una de esas noches, compusiste tu primer tema en sólo 20 minutos. A la mañana siguiente, enviaste una versión en bruto de este a algunos sellos americanos que a ti te gustaban y Nard’s fue inmediatamente publicada por StillMusic, ¡un sello de Chicago! Quiero decir, tu lanzamiento como productor comenzó exactamente con tu primer tema ¡en apenas unos días! Bien, ¿podrías hablarnos sobre tus antecedentes musicales?

Siempre he sido un coleccionista y siempre me ha apasionado la música. Tocaba algún instrumento cuando era más joven, pero todo surgió simplemente de escuchar buena música. Al vivir en Manchester estás expuesto al buen material, así que te pones el listón bastante alto a la hora de realizar tus producciones incluso antes de empezar. Nard's fue completado con tanta rapidez porque las vibraciones, el ritmo, “the vibe” surgieron instantáneamente, a veces un tema funciona por si mismo. Así que tuve mucha suerte con mi primer lanzamiento.

¿Qué tipo de discos o estilos musicales comprabas en los tiempos en que comenzaste tu colección?

Al principio yo era un fan del hip hop y coleccionista de sampleados de Jazz, después pase al soul y a la música disco, de ahí directamente al house y finalmente al techno; donde musicalmente me encuentro ahora. Creo que es un ciclo de vida natural. Sencillamente, es el lugar donde crecí lo que me hizo apreciar la música. Nací alrededor del punto álgido de toda la movida indie de Manchester, así que esto ha formado muchísimo mis gustos musicales.

Esta respuesta nos lleva a nuestra siguiente pregunta: ¿te acuerdas de los primeros álbumes que te motivaron? ¿Podrías comentarnos algo sobre ellos?

Moodymann Forevernevermore ( Spotify - Deezer ) Marvin Gaye What's Going On ( Spotify - Deezer ) Estos dos LPs para un profano podrían parecer mundos aparte. Para mi estos LPs son lo mejor de la música soul. Te enganchan desde la misma “intro” hasta el final. Una hora constante de música que te funde y te envuelve en un viaje musical hacia el interior de la mente del artista. Estos LPs corrían por mis venas cuando intentaba crear mi primer LP Working Nights ( Spotify - Deezer )

Y si tu vieras que nombrar alguna de las influencias clave en tus producciones ¿qué nombres dejarías caer aparte de Marvin Gaye y Moodymann?

Para mi todo surge del hip hop, con Jay Dee, Q-tip y Primo productores totalmente intemporales e innovadores. Después, para el house sería MAW (Masters At Work), sencillamente un genio. También nuestros colegas de Detroit por sus vibraciones y energía, luego vendrían algunos productores de soul/disco/jazz como the Mizell brothers, Peter Brown y Patrick Adams. Intento utilizar los consejos y trucos que estos tíos emplean en sus producciones en lo que hago hoy en día.

Hay un nuevo elemento que nos gustaría incluir en nuestros posts además de la lista discográfica y tú serás el primer artista en responder: ¿hay algún mix de otro DJ que a ti particularmente te guste? Y ¿podrías añadir algún comentario, por favor?

Por supuesto. El mix de Theo Parrish en Radio Nova durante su primera visita a Paris cuando pinchó en el Rex Club (Nov 2003). Un puro genio ¡Para mi es único! ¡El fue el que me hizo convertirme en DJ y meterme de lleno en la producción música! Encontrarás incluso comentarios que hice online

Hablemos ahora del futuro, si no te importa. ¿Cuales serán tus próximas producciones? ¿Estás ya trabajando en un tercer álbum, por ejemplo?

He seleccionado algunos temas de los últimos dos LPs (con Trus’me) que actualmente están siendo mezclados por Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Terrence Dixon, DVS1 y más gente. Ahora estoy aventurándome en el reino del techno con mi producción como 'David James'.

¿Cómo va tu sello Prime Numbers? ¿Nos presentarás pronto a nuevos talentos?

Aparte del EP remezclado que saldrá este invierno, habrá un nuevo artista Nick Sinna que tiene un sonido techno profundo, crudo y melódico. Estoy realmente entusiasmado con el nuevo lanzamiento y también con una nueva imagen visual del sello.

Referente a tu trabajo como DJ, hay algunas preguntas que siempre nos gusta hacer. ¿Cuales son tus mejores recuerdos de una sesión?

En realidad tengo demasiados para poder mencionar uno en particular, pero honestamente siempre que veo que el público está disfrutando de verdad de un set es un buen recuerdo. El poder hacer a la gente tan feliz a través de la música es como una droga. Esta sensación es lo que me hace continuar en esto.

De entre todos los sound systems que te encontraste durante tu gira alrededor del mundo como DJ, ¿algún favorito?

Muchísimos buenos, Zouk en Singapur, Plastic People en Londres y Panorama Bar en Berlín todos ellos son de primera.

Y además de en Discogs, ¿dónde compras tus discos? ¿Continúas tomándote tu tiempo para rebuscar discos en alguna tienda que no sea online?

Bueno, compro la mayoría de mis discos online, en Discogs y Boomkat…Estos que os voy a nombrar ahora los compré en Discogs.

That year, right after graduating with a business master's degree, you swiftly and radically changed your path, deciding that your life was not the one you had been preparing for. During one of these nights, you composed your first track ever in about 20 minutes. The next morning, you sent a rough version of this track to some American labels you liked and Nard's got published right away by StillMusic, a Chicago label! I mean, your career as a producer was launched from your very first track in just a few days! So, could you give us some light on your musical background?

I have always been a collector and always loved music. I played a few instruments when I was younger, but it all comes from just listening to good music. Living in Manchester you are exposed to the good stuff, so you set a high bar in your production before you even start. Nard's was completed so quickly as it had the vibe instantly, sometimes a track just works itself. So lucky for me it was my first release.

What kind of records or music styles did you buy when you started your collection at the time?

I was a hip hop fan and jazz samples collector to begin with, moved to soul and disco, straight into house and now techno, where I am musically at present. It's a natural life cycle I feel. Quite simply it's where I grew up that made me appreciate music. I was born towards the height of the whole mancunian indie era, so this has a lot to account for in my musical tastes.

That answer leads us to our next question: do you remember the first records that moved you and could you give us a few words about them?

Moodymann Forevernevermore ( Spotify - Deezer ) Marvin Gaye What's Going On ( Spotify - Deezer ) These two LP's to an outsider would appear worlds apart. For me these 2 LP's are soul music at their best. They grip you from the intro all the way to the finale. A constant hour of music that blends and bends you around on a musical journey into the mind of that particular artist. These LP's ran thick through my blood when I attempted to make my first LP Working Nights ( Spotify - Deezer )

And if you had to name some of the key influences for your productions, which names would you drop besides Marvin Gaye and Moodymann?

For me it's all stems from hip hop, so Jay Dee, Q-tip and Primo are timeless solid forward thinking producers. Then to house would be MAW (Masters At Work), just genius. Also our Detroit cats for their vibe and then some soul/disco/jazz producers like the Mizell brothers, Peter Brown and Patrick Adams. I try to use the tips and tricks these guys used in their own production in what I do today.

Here is a new feature that we would like to include in our posts besides the playlist and you’ll be the first artist to answer : is there a set from another DJ that you specifically like? And could you add a few comments, please?

Sure. It's the Theo Parrish mix on Radio Nova during his first stay in Paris when he played at the Rex Club (Nov 2003). Pure genius. It's kind of unique to me. It got me into DJing and music production! You'll even find some comments I made online .

Let’s speak about the future now, if you don’t mind. What will be your next personal releases? Are you working on a third album for instance?

I have selected tracks from the last two LP's (under Trus'me) currently being remixed by Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Terrence Dixon, DVS1 and more. I'm now venturing into the techno realm with my production under 'David James'.

What about your label Prime Numbers? Will you soon introduce us some new talents?

Apart from the remix EP's due out this winter, there will be a new artist Nick Sinna who has a deep, raw and melodic techno sound. Really excited about the next release also with a new visual look for the label.

On the DJ side, there are a few questions that we always like to ask. Do you have a best memory behind the decks?

There really are too many to mention, but to be honest whenever I can see that they genuinely enjoyed the set is a good memory. It's a drug to make people that happy through music. It's what keeps me going.

Amongst the sound systems you meet while touring the globe as a DJ, any favorites?

So many good ones, Zouk in Singapore, Plastic People in London and Panorama Bar in Berlin are all top notch.

And besides Discogs, where do you buy you records? Do you still take time to dig for records in some offline shops?

Well, I buy most of my records online, on Discogs and Boomkat…These following ones I bought on Discogs.

Berlin techno based, dubstep forward-thinker and more, sub-bass master and African hand-drum percussions collector, highly recognizable and consistent UK producer Sam Shackleton finally came back for a live in Paris, on May 7th at the Social Club. It was big time... I often wonder if there will ever be a club or a promoter in Paris, bold enough to offer Sam a monthly residence: "hear me talkin' hillbilly boys?!"

My name is not Marsellus Wallace but "I ain't through with you by a damn sight. I'm gonna git Medieval on your asses" as Paris is still a pulp fiction for nightclubbing in 2011. Get me right. I've seen efforts in the city, lately, ok. Far from being enough, though! Excellency has nothing to say to Mr Acceptable or Mr Fair... How can you expect the audience, the dancers to change if you don't lead them through the right path? Take more risks, you club big shots, please... That night, the pretty good Dement3d line up also included the promising french band DSCRD (aka Discordance, live), the italian Lucy (live), François X and Heartbeat.

Just after Sam Shackleton and I met and sympathised, last year at the Rex Club, Ruddy Candillon a talented and not only electronic musicians photographer (Ruddy's 'Masters Of Celebration') took some picture of us. Just jet a glance at my jacket on the left, it’s so crumpled, it’s dead laundry. Add my over-sweated pants: my suit got ruined that night. Though, I was not the only one, down on my knees, with dancing hands up, appealing to secret gods and surrounded by shamans. Shackleton gets us in trance…

Oliver Deutschmann picks his essentials in one minute for Groove N' Vibes.

Spinning and producing a wide spectrum of music ranging from the deepest of House, to the harder side of Techno, Oliver Deutschmann has made his humble mark on electronic music and the Berlin scene for thepast decade. After establishing 'Vidab' with Stephan Hill in 2007, hisfirst EP 'Siem Reap' saw light on the label, and led to bookings at Berlin's Berghain. Ever since Deutschmann enjoys a unique relationship with the club, playing regularly both floors, and holding the 'Vidab' label nights at the venue.
In 2010 Deutschmann launched a new imprint, 'Falkplatz', which came from his need to have an open unbounded platform for electronic music. The label has since released Oliver's productions remixed by Quarion and Nick Chacona, an EP from Ed Davenport, and a new series of releases called 'Collabs' with co productions of Oliver with friends and projects, such as gowentgone, SubbroomAssosciation, and Koljah. 'Falkplatz' also unvieled the 'daten' catalog with a release by Ron Deacon supported by a Sascha Dive Remix.
Some notable releases from Oliver Deutschmann towards the end of the year and in 2011 are the 'Waterfalls' EP including a Patrice Scott remix on Jack Off, the 'Celebrate Love' EP including an XDB remix on Aim, Davenport & Deutschmann's 'The Kristian Slayter' EP including Mathias Vogt and Roberto Bosco remixes on Polytone, Gowentgone 'Walk With Us' EP on Vidab, and the highly anticipatedDavenport & Deutschmann 'Trump' EP including Brendon Moeller and Jerome Sydenham remixes.
Apart from catching Oliver Deutschmann playing regularly at Panorama Bar in Berlin or other European top spots, festivals like Sonar in Barcelona or Krauss in Osaka, from December 2010 Deutschmann will hold a residency at the 'playOn' parties taking place in Italy, Spain, and Germany with further cities to be announced.

After a few years of tightly regimented sounds and scenes dominating the dance underground, it now seems that people are making electronic music more freely once again. Techno guys are playing deep house, old-school flavors are mingling with cutting-edge production techniques, and the spirit of the times is more open to DJs and producers who are willing to mix it up than it has been for a long while.

As the techno world went minimal-crazy in 2006, Adam realigned his plans with a fresh label, New Kanada. In the spirit of imprints like Planet E, New Kanada avoids easy pigeonholing, preferring to put out a wide variety of quality music without being particularly genre-specific.

Recently acclaimed remixes for Seth Troxler, Radioslave’s Rekids label, and his own forthcoming outing on Cynosure (described by renowned techno writer Philip Sherburne as “absolutely gorgeous”), are all gaining serious props with heads from across the underground divide, with neo-house fans, minimal die-hards, and techno purists all showing their appreciation of late. Apart from his other boutique vinyl label, KUJI, who’s first release (‘Chord Tracking’) was record of the month in techno bible De:Bug – Adam has remixes scheduled for Tiga’s Turbo label and is currently collaborating with Toronto favourites Murr and Rosina from LAL, and K7′s Milosh.

Allez-Allez are Sam Willis and Steve Nolan, two of London's brightest and most talented up-and coming producers / DJs, their sets are a mixture of all things weird, wonderful and danceable - think krautrock / minimal / industrial / house. Allez-Allez's debut EP has been released on the NYC based RVNG Intl. . They have also supplied blissed out dancefloor rerubs for Fever Ray, Simian Mobile Disco and High Places amongst others.

In 2009 they started their own imprint 'Amazing Sounds' in collaboration with noted artist/designer James Joyce and Kompakt Recordings, the first release being remixes of Harmonia & Brian Eno by Shackleton and Appleblim- future releases include music from the varied likes of Dan Deacon, Hudson Mohawke, The Field and Luke Abbott amongst others. Sam is also one half of WALLS, a new duo signed to Kompakt (www.myspace.com/wallsjams) described recently as sounding like a cross between Boards Of Canada and Animal Collective.

Their blog / podcast series (located at www.allez-allez.co.uk) features exclusive weekly mixes from Allez-Allez, plus carefully selected guest mixes from the likes of Hot Chip, Four Tet, Andrew Weatherall, Lindstrom, Optimo, Ewan Pearson and Joakim amongst many others.

They have hosted parties for and played alongside the likes of James Holden, Michael Mayer, LCD's James Murphy, Optimo, Four Tet, Shackleton, Hercules & Love Affair and Gui Borrato amongst others.

Born and bred in Michigan, and currently based in Brooklyn, Eric Cloutier is one of a new generation of American DJs bridging the gap between dance music's past and its future. His sets have a sprawling depth and sophistication that fuses the brooding intensity of tripping techno with the mechanic funk of contemporary house.
Cloutier started spinning records in 1996, quickly establishing himself in Detroit's competitive local scene, holding down residencies at The Necto and prominent afterhours spot The Works. This led to a job booking Oslo, where he brought the likes of Richie Hawtin, Luciano and Michael Mayer to town, as well as handing out residencies to local legends Three Chairs and Stacey Pullen.
In 2006, Cloutier made the jump to New York and quickly established himself, earning a residency at the premiere monthly techno night The Bunker and mid-week soiree Den of Thieves. He's also begun his own night, Down, in which he often stretches out to play lengthy sets that showcase his range, effortlessly threading together deeper shades of house and dub-infused techno. Word has been spreading too: 2009 saw Cloutier recording two mixes for the mnml ssgs podcast series, beginning to work in the studio for the first time on his own material, making his European DJing debut and getting tapped to play at Japan's renowned Labyrinth Festival. That latter honor may be the most telling of all: Only a select few are asked to spin at Labyrinth. (It's the provenance of studious selectors like Daniel Bell, Donato Dozzy and Peter Van Hoesen.) To not only spin in their company, but to have ably held his own should tell you all you need to know about Eric Cloutier: He's a DJ for whom quality—above all else—is the watchword.

In the beginning it was Italo Disco that introduced long-term friends Conrad, Philipp and Lars to electronic music. Muddled by the sight of seductive synthesizers they quickly called themselves The Moroders and shortened their christian names to just their initials. Since then L Moroder has taken care of the visual appearance while C and P man the record players.

A DJ-set by The Moroders is always informed by an unruly appetite to discover good music. Always willing to convey electronic music not only in line with obvious Detroit and Chicago parameters, it is mostly canny House and Disco-Tech that forms the basis of their sets. It has never really occurred to them that records are purchased according to genres. Therefore it is no surprise to find them incorporating a Dubstep track as well as a long a forgotten polish funk-gem, a principle that also renders their mixes to something special and less common.

As residents and bookers of their bimonthly club night Cosmic Dancer that was established in 2006 they invite their favourite artists such as Todd Terje, Mr Raoul K and Runaway to their beloved home town. They also run a blog at www.themoroders.com and host a monthly radio show at the independent radio station coloRadio in Dresden. Recently, they have become founding members of the Uncally Valley collective and further established themselves as an integral part of Dresden's electronic music scene.
